Whether he's dress modestly or royally, Raoul wears a pair of dark brown or black boots. general personality:
Raoul sometimes comes off as rough around the edges. He likes to smoke a pipe and loves his alcohol, will be sometimes be found with a little stubble and can be quite crotchety when he wants to be. His "bark is worse than his bite", which means he might yell and scream, but won't actually do anything. Raoul has little to no patience and has low impulse control. Unlike most monarchs, he is very blunt and outspoken and is not afraid to say his opinion. When arrive to one of his parties and walk into the room, you know he is there. But on the other hand, Raoul knows when its time to close his mouth.
Like an overheated aerosol can, Raoul cracks under pressure. If harassed enough by his advisors to do something like make a new law or such, he will do it without question. Normally Raoul does like to interfere in the affairs of other countries and prefers focusing on his own, but he was pushed so much to send delegates to Narnia that it eventually did happen. He only really did it because he was worried for Archenland. His interest lies in the welfare of his country and no other and he would completely shut out the other lands if he could.
Raoul has rules. They've guided him through Kingship, family, women, and love since the crown was placed on his head and have kept his sorry butt from getting killed. Self rule number one: you can shag women but don't commit or get attached to them because in the end they'll only break your heart. Rule number two: Don't trust nice foreigners. It means they want your land. Rule number three: Take care of your family even though they drive you mad. Rule number four: Everyone in the kingdom counts even the poor people. And rule number five? Always show your authority, but don't do it like a tyrant.
Aside from these, Raoul is a little naive. He trusts everyone in his court and he believes that he is adored by all in the Kingdom when there are some who do not want to see him as a ruler. He loves women to no end and will chase anything with boobs and a skirt to his bed, even if that woman has the personality of a succubus. He has absolutely no shame and would dance bare naked in front of an open window if you dared him or he was drunk enough.
Raoul loves his family above all. To his youngest sister Estrilda, he is a like a father figure and protects her from suitors. Him and his middle sister Millicent are like best friends and care deeply for each-other and Raoul absolutely adores her two children. He however cannot stand her husband the Duke Herlewin because of his vanity and overly effeminate personality. Raouls mother drives him insane sometimes and treats him like he is sixteen, but he loves her nonetheless. Ever since they were children, Raoul and his brother have always been distant and since he became King they are not friendly with one another. What Raoul doesn't know is that he leading the plot to overthrow him.
The King currently has no queen, but by his own mistake he is the father of a little boy, Avery. When he was the new king, Raoul romanced a castle chambermaid named Emmeline and as a result of this she became pregnant with his child and gave birth to a boy, Avery. They live in a seasonal home Raoul put them in after Emmeline gave birth and recently he celebrated his fourth birthday. Raoul enjoys his periodical visits to the fullest and loves him to no end.
Raoul is an dog lover. He owns three- three big mountain dogs. He loves all of them, but still sees all of them as having a purpose. Eauda is his female saint bernard, and favorite hiking companion. Haraldus is his burly, brawny dogo argentino. He might look mean, but is by nature a very gentle pooch. The last iis a pretty chow named Aubrey, just there to keep him company. Raoul hates calling himself a King. He feels he is nothing short of the rest of his people when it comes to status and likes to think of himself as the leader of Archenland rather than the King.

history: Raoul was the firstborn child of his parents, King Edward and Queen Linota and as a boy his birth was celebrated greatly. But to his fathers disappointment, the little prince was not what he had wanted. Instead of a brave, brawny boy, Raoul was a sniveling sickly little sissy crybaby. He suffered frequently from illnesses and cried for hours when he fell off the pony his father bought for him. These personality traits earned him the nickname "Princess Raoul" by his father. When he was three, Raoul's mother had her second child, a girl to the disappointment of his father.
Raoul and his sister Millicent were close, until when Raoul became an adolescent and began to drift from his feminism. His mother would eventually give him another sister, Estrilda, and a brother after the birth of Millicent, Wilmarc. As a child, Wilmarc was the opposite of Raoul- hard headed, strong, and rowdy. Even though as the oldest Raoul was next in line for the throne, his father groomed Wilmarc as if he was the crown prince.
When he was 16, Raoul began training to become a knight. His original purpose for it was to please his father, but the more self-discipline he gained, the more Raoul enjoyed the work and lost interest in pleasing his father. For once in his life, he felt like a true man. He kind of became a jerk in his teenage, bullying his sisters and teasing his brother and pushing the castle servants around. He wasn't really a brat, more just an arrogant arse. Later, his mother found him a tutor who taught him that wits and knowledge could sometimes be a better weapon than a sword.
And when Raoul's father was deemed too sick to rule, he appointed Wilmarc as his regent. By this time Raoul was around 19-22 years old and had settled himself in court as a knight. He had no interest in the throne; Raoul's life only revolved around protecting of his youngest sister and fiancée. About two years before, he'd met a girl named Rosaline, a working-class girl from Anvard, the small town near his castle. She worked in his home as a maid and his origin had been just to "have fun" with her, but he saw that there was so much more to Rosaline. For the first time, Raoul saw past status and plain clothes when he fell in love with the palace chambermaid. He wanted nothing more than to settle down and have the simple life with her, but life would have other plans for the prince.
Wilmarc proved to be an inefficient ruler. He was weak and couldn't as much as glance at the lower class people outside of court. His only interest was to gain more territory and power and Raoul knew that would only bring devastation to his homeland. Wilmarc would only pour money into wars and the working class would starve. He knew that he had to become King, or else he would see the decline of Archenland. Raoul's father eventually died and Wilmarc's coronation was scheduled. With Rosalie, he went into the archives and dusted off the old constitution that stated that the throne be passed on to the firstborn child of the previous ruler. After some hassle, Raoul was crowned King of Archenland at age 25. His next step was to make Rosaline his Queen, but once again fate had other plans for Raoully boy.
With her finacee now a King, Rosaline began to wonder if she had been interested in Raoul, or in his throne. When Rosaline realized it was the latter, she ended their relationship. She could not be happy with someone she did not love. Her background would make it impossible to enjoy the life of a monarch. To his heartbreak, Raoul's love left the castle and moved back to Anvard where she ended up marrying someone else..or so Raoul has heard.
Raoul became a father to a little boy when he was 26 after courting a and romancing a castle chambermaid. They live away from court in one of the family's seasonal homes and occasionally visit the King if not that, he will come to visit them on his own.
His heartbreak did not last long though, for Raoul began to find he actually enjoyed the single life. And as a King, women threw themselves at his feet, a trait he basked in like the sun. Temptation overtook him when he met Lady Bryce, a wife to an earl in the court. But the Earl was old, the Lady was young, and her parents had pushed her into marrying him much before Raoul had taken the throne. She was beautiful and they began an affair, which is still going on. The Lady believes her King loves her, (which he does not, it is merely lust) and will marry her if the Earl passes away. Each time the Lady leaves his bed, Raoul feels a pang of guilt for the old man she is cheating on with him.
THE ROLEPLAYING canon or original character: original. why do you want to play this character: Well, I started with Raoul years ago on another narnia site and he's kind of become a favorite character of mine and I just adore him so much I've kept using him and have been able to develop him well as my writing skills get better. take this quiz: www.ponylandpress.com/ms-test.html what was your character's score?: 11 roleplay sample:
Natalie's pale complexion and light hair made it almost impossible for Raoul to recognize her in the falling snow. He could make her out as she moved closer to him - heh, Raoul knew that tiny girl anywhere. Well, she wasn't dwarf sized or anything, but to a man over six feet, anything under 5'10 was small. He could make a prediction as to why she was coming- to report on the little group he had stationed in Narnia. Raoul motioned for her to come over as he wrestled with his hound, calling "Is that you, Natalie?" Not long ago they'd gotten a lovely word of a war brewing in Narnia and he'd been advised- correction, pushed to send delegates to their court. The expression on Natalie's face said this would not be news that would thrill him. Raoul held out his hand when it seemed she was ready to fall over. It was however too late, as Lady Natalie had slipped, though it was not quite a full fall. Typical Nat. Graceful had never quite been a word to describe her. But it was her flaws that made him adore her. Unlike many of the women in his court, she was happy just being herself. Real people were the best- phonies were the worst.
He reached down and held out his hand to the woman practically perched on the snowy ground, and pulled her to her feet. For a moment they stood in front of each-other, Raoul gazing down at Natalie's face. The fact that she was half his height forced him to look down to see her. Raoul hadn't seen Natalie in months. Yeah, he had missed her. Would he admit it if you asked him? Most likely not. Externally, Raoul wasn't the type of guy who'd hug and kiss you if you said hello or goodbye to him; he hated that mushy gushy crap. He wasn't a cold or emotionless man; Raoul just preferred to conceal the emotions he considered sappy, because he thought they were a sign of weakness. And as a King he could not be weak
And then the little Hallmark moment was over. With a smirk, the King said "Did those Narnian gits treat you well? Or is that why you came back?"
"Come. This is absolutely not the place to talk. We shall go to my study," Raoul gently took her by the wrist towards his office. Before they left the courtyard, he whistled for his hound who'd been too distracted by a snow bank with a very interesting smell to follow his master out. Raoul hoped Natalie didn't mind being grabbed so abruptly. Eh, he knew her well enough by now to know that he could have tossed her over his shoulder and she wouldn't have cared. Well, maybe not to that extreme, but Natalie knew by now knew of that Raoul had very little impulse control and she'd seemed to grow used to it. They'd known each-other since Nat was a little girl and he an adolescent boy. Funny how he could remember when she was barely able to walk as though it was yesterday and here she was a grown girl. Over the years Raoul had watched her grow into a woman..She was young yes, but he'd seen her mature from teenager into courtier. Raoul knew he could always trust Lady Natalie- there was no other reason he'd sent her to Narnia.
It didn't take very long for them to reach the study. To warm up the room, Raoul threw a few logs into the fireplace and lit them. Then, he went over to his little liquor table and poured some wine for himself. "Did you want anything to drink, Nat?" he asked, setting his own glass on his desk.Noticing the door cracked open, Raoul went over and closed it, sticking a nearby clout underneath. This was classified information. His court and staff didn't need to know what was happening in Narnia right now. If it was urgent, he'd tell them, but now was not the time. And anyway, someone who walked past might mishear something, run their mouth and then he'd have a million rumors spreading court- something else they did not need right now.
"All right missy, now tell your leader what those Narnians have been up to."
